OtterID Help
CSUMB Identity ManagerYour OtterID is your most often-used ID on campus. It is used for everything from campus email to logging onto computers and connecting to the wireless network, to logging into CMS Student/HR for class registration and checking grades.

Your OtterID is the first four letters of your last name, plus four randomly-selected numbers.
What it's used for
Any online or desktop system on campus, for example:
- MyCSUMB
- CMS Student/HR
- Email & Calendar
- Desktop Computer Log in/Log out
- Online Learning (iLearn)
- Wireless Computing
- File Storage/Website (Home Server)
- Lab Log in/Logout
How to find it
To find your password, follow the instructions at id.csumb.edu.
Your default password
When you first get your OtterID, your default password is your date of birth in the format of the capitalized month, followed by the two-digit day and four-digit year. For example, if your birthdate was November 9, 1980, your password would be November091980.
Password Requirements
CSUMB has implemented updated OtterID password requirements based on the CSU System-Wide Information Security Standards. Passwords must be at least 8-characters long and contain at least three (3) out of the four (4) following character types:
- At least one uppercase alphabet character (A-Z)
- At least one lowercase alphabet character (a-z)
- At least one number (0-9)
- At least one special character (~ ! @ # $ & * ( ) _ + = - ` [ ] | : " ; ' < > , . ? /)
- Passwords must be changed every 180-days.
- You may not re-use any of your last 3 passwords.
- Passwords cannot contain parts of your name or otterid.
- Passwords cannot be changed until they are a minimum of 30 days old.
Forgot Password Questions
You will be prompted nine times to set up Your Forgot Password Questions when logging into MyCSUMB. These questions let you reset your password if you happen to forget it. To setup your forgot password questions, go to the CSUMB Identity Manager. Login with your OtterID and password, and you will be prompted to select some Forgot Password Questions if you have not previously set them up.
You can always login to CSUMB Identity Manager to change your Forgot Password Questions. Click the "Continue" button under OtterID, then click the "Forgot Password Questions" tab to change them.
How to change your password
If you know your password and would like to change it
Click here to go to the CSUMB Identity Management system. You will need to enter your new password twice, then enter your old password to confirm the change
If you have forgotten your password
If you have forgotten your password and have setup your forgot password questions , click here to go to the CSUMB Identity Management system, then click the "Forgot Password" link, which will prompt you with your forgot password questions..
